TEDBURN ST MARY FOOTBALL CLUB: "THE SAINTS"
Tedburn St Mary Football Club is located at Barley Park, situated on the outskirts of Tedburn St Mary, just off the A30 Fingle Glen junction adjoining the Golf Club.
We have developed two
senior pitches, a youth and training area and a Clubhouse providing
four changing rooms, two referees rooms, and kitchen and lounge
facilities.
History
Our club was
founded in 1921 and continued to play until 1972 when the ground was lost
due to the development of the A30. Our club was then reformed in 1983 and
has continued to grow to this current day. Our club is a member of the Devon & Exeter Football League and is affiliated to the Devon County Football Association.
Our constitutional aim is to promote
and sustain the highest possible standard of football and good fellowship,
both on and off the pitch.
The club used to play its home games in Crediton and Exeter, but
it was always our major ambition to secure our own
facilities.
In December 1999, we bought a 10-acre field.
During the summer of 2000, the main area was levelled to provide two
football pitches, and further levelling provided a training and Youth
football area. This was achieved through fundraising and considerable
voluntary work from within the community.
In January 2002, we applied for grant funding through the Football Foundation, a sports body who distribute funds from the lottery scheme, and we were awarded £166,000 to complement our own fundraising and build our clubhouse at Barley Park, the home of Tedburn St Mary Football Club. From commencement to the award, it took a staggering five years of dedication and hard work from the Club Committee.
Where we are today We are a registered charity promoting community
participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of the inhabitants of
Tedburn St Mary and surrounding villages by the provision of facilities
for playing football and other sporting and play activities. We also hold
the status of a Registered Environmental Body
.
The club has
achieved Standard Chartered Status.
We have superb
facilities, which have been recognised across the region. We have hosted many
events for Devon County Football Association and the Cornwall School of
Excellence.
