FIRST
RESPONDERS
The First Responders
are a group of local volunteers who help the community by responding to
medical emergencies. They are trained by the Ambulance Service
to help respond to medical emergencies received by the 999 system in our
own community before the arrival of an emergency ambulance.
The
First Responders do not replace the response from the Ambulance
service - they complement the response you receive and try to reduce
the time you wait for medical assistance.
In many cases, the
team’s intervention can literally mean the difference between life and
death.
In cases of cardiac arrest, a patient's heart literally
stops - without defibrillation their chances of survival decreases by 10%
for every minute that goes by. The First Responders are trained to use
automatic defibrillators and can therefore provide this vital
intervention.

which relates to survival rates after cardiac arrests, please click here.
The First Responders are looking for new volunteers to join them.
